Lyndon Jones, popularly known throughout Guyana and amongst the Guyanese community in North America as ‘Jumbie’, was born in New Amsterdam on 14th January, 1966.

Lyndon’s interest in acting manifested from an early age when he made his debut with the Sunflower Drama Group in New Amsterdam performing for various functions and school concerts. In 1966, he joined the prison service whilst stationed in Bartica and discovered that even there he could continue to explore his love for the theatre. Formed by and comprised of prison officers and prisoners, The Republican Drama Group entertained not only the families of prison officials but was invited to perform at activities produced by the Regional Administration and Mash Committees among many other organizations for the general public. It was there that he met and befriended fellow actor and comedian Henry Rodney. The two performed several short skits together and were so well received that they were soon known as “Dem Two”.

He subsequently moved to Georgetown and was invited to take part in a local sitcom called “Juice Junction”. At the conclusion of this production he soon appeared in another local sitcom “Agree to Disagree”. This proved to be so popular that the name of the character he played- “Jumbie” stuck to this day. He eventually joined the production team where he worked behind the scenes and learnt filming and editing.

Lyndon was invited to be a part of the Upscale Restaurant’s “Comedy Night” where his career in stand-up comedy eventually took off and skyrocketed and led to a series of performances throughout the length and breadth of Guyana. He was also involved in several stage productions and plays at the National Cultural Centre including the popular “Link Show”.

Lyndon “Jumbie” Jones currently resides in Georgetown, Guyana’s capital city and operates his own videography business. He also works extensively as a stand-up comedian and actor.
